Moving!

8 years.

In 8 years, I have had one website and 4 different photo blogs.

A few months ago, some stupid hackers decided it would be fun to put porn on my site and I sadly said goodbye to my site while I took some time to figure out what I wanted to do with it. I finally realized I've been dividing my time between a blog and a site for far too long, so I'm combining the two.

Consequently, that means I'm leaving this blog. It's been fun here, but this way I can devote what time I have to playing around with one site instead of two...better for everyone :-)

It began during the spring semester in my junior year of college. The first photography critique of that semester did not go well. at. all. My photography professor said she was worried about me and was questioning why I was even there. So I cried and it was a bit of a low point. But a few days later, inspiration struck like someone hitting me on the head to tell me I "could've had a v8".

My epiphany? Diptychs.

I was then introduced to the work of photographer Rafael Navarro via his book "Dípticos". Sitting on the floor next to the bookshelves in my professor's office, it was love at first sight. I just wanted to stare at some of them for hours, trying to figure out why he chose to put those two images together. Never before had I been so captivated by a photographer's work. I still search online for the book, in the hopes of someday owning it.

So, the above image is one in a series of diptychs I created during a summer class following that fateful semester. They were the biggest I had ever printed, 16x24. That fall they were on display in a show with 2 of my other classmates. My professor never said anything to me about them, but she did tell her other classes to go see our show. I secretly hoped that was her way of saying I didn't suck so bad after all. Guess I'll never really know, but I'm proud of what I created then, and there are definitely plans to do more.

After 3 weeks of being disconnected from the world, I FINALLY have internet in my new apartment!

Last week, my friends were on vacation, so I got to take care of their two awesome dogs which of course led to taking photos of their two awesome dogs...

Escaping

Since some silly hackers violated my site, I've been going through all my old work, compiling the best of the best for a new kick-ass site. Of course the plans for that are slightly on hold til life gets normal again. Yeah that's right...normal, whatever that is :-P Anyways, I consider this to be an oldie, but a goodie. Sorry for the not-so-fabulous quality...these images were taken with film and printed on a single piece of paper in the darkroom (when I said oldie I really wasn't kidding). So what you see here is a digital image that was taken of the actual print, thus the not-so-fabulous quality. And I can't post this without saying thanks to Chris for his help in making the bottom image possible.

Except for snapshots of family and friends, I don't rarely do portraits.
Beth and I had an airbrush makeup session with Christina from Touch of Color the other day, and then decided to have our own photo session afterward. We had a lot of fun roaming the outdoor studio space, and I thought this one of Beth turned out quite nicely. Who knows...maybe someday I'll start taking portraits more regularly instead of rarely...

Amanda and I are going to Talladega tomorrow. We have pit passes, which I'm quite excited about, so stayed tuned for some NASCAR images :-)

Vacation last week to Hilton Head Island. I fell in love w/ the live oaks and Spanish moss, which were both quite abundant on our trip. We spent a day in Savannah, and I fell in love with that city. The historic district is just awesome and gorgeous and charming and inspiring and there just aren't enough adjectives to describe it. The vacation itself was great and amusing as always...getting locked INSIDE the condo (you can find my longer version of that story here), finding a giant spider in my shirt after I put the shirt on, running from the car to the condo in pea-sized hail... Today I've taken the plunge back into reality (almost as harsh as putting my feet into the cold Atlantic Ocean), glad to be sleeping in my bed again, wondering where the warm temperatures have gone, and cringing at the sight of my pollen-covered car.
